Literary Devices

ch. 1 literary devices used in this chapter are foreshadowing and simlies and metaphors. gatsby reflects upon a time when he and daisy were in love when he is telling the story. The author also uses many comparisons throughout the text using similes and metaphors.

ch.2 Some of the literary devices used in this chapter are similes ("...A fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills." 23) and personification (but above the gray land and the spasms of bleak dust which drift endlessly over it you perceive after a moment the eyes of Dr. T.J Eckleburg are blue and gigantic, their retinas are one yard high.They look out of no face but instead from a pair of enormous yellow spectacles which pass over a non existent nose."

ch.3 Some literay devices that i noticed in this chapter are similes (...while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains." 39), metaphors (...or taking the sun on the hot sand of his beach while his two motor boats slit the water of the sound. 39), and personification (...The light grows bigger as the earth lurches away from the sun." 40)

ch. 4 Literary devices that i saw in this chapter were personification (i saw him opening a chest of rubies to ease. with their crimson lighted depths, the gnawings of his broken heart." 67)

ch. 5 Literary devices in this chapter are metaphors (Her voice is full of money." 120) (The compressed heat exploded into sound." 127)

ch.6 In this chapter i saw these literary devices: Personification (a  fog horn was groaning incessantly on the sound." 147), Flashback (...One autumn night they had been walking down the street when the leaves were still falling and they came to a a place where there were no trees and the sidewalk was white with moonlight." 110)

ch. 7 Literary devices in this chapter are: Metaphors (the next day was broiling, almost the last, certainly the warmest, of the summer." 114), personification (So we drove on towards death through the cooing moonlight." 136)

ch. 8 These were some of the literary devices i found in this chapter: Personification ("She wanted her life shaped now, immediately and the decision must be made by some force." 151) (He stretched out his hand desperately as if to snatch only a wisp of air." 153)
